The other day I talked to a business owner and he was saying “ I don’t do networking events, they don’t work”. Don’t they?
Hi, My name is Edward Plant from The Business League and I work with business owners to Connect, Develop and Grow their businesses. Fundamentally The Business League is a business support networking organization that conducts networking events but networking events that work.
After I spoke to the business owner, after he said it doesn’t work I said to him “cool, I get that. What networking did you do? How did you do it? Where did you do it? How often did you do it? What results did you get from it? “ . His response is like a lot of thing like “ I don’t really know, I did a couple of here and there and just really didn’t got traction. What does not getting traction look like? He said “I just didn’t get any business”. What call me down to is that he really didn’t understand where he is going, how he was doing it and the actual outcome or the results he got from it.
Networking is just a marketing strategy on your business. If you choose a marketing strategy that your business have and if you don’t know how you do it, where you do it, when you do it , what it’s costing you and what you getting back from it or it’s not going to working, it’s not going to be a great strategy. That was the boat he was in so if networking is a strategy that you’re interested in or you’re using you need to know how you’re going to do it, where you’re going to do it, what you’re going to do it, what you’re going to invest and will you be able to track and measure your results over a period of time to make sure that you’re getting improvement in the right direction and grow support for your business.
This morning we ran a networking breakfast. We had 60 people turned up and every person left with 2 great connections from people that will support their business. This will restrictedly identified and connected, referrals or contacts for each business owner. 60 people 120 connections and I’m sure some got more than 2 but a pretty successful breakfast. That is how we roll at The Business League where we work connecting people, developing their business and growing their business.
You can come along to one of our networking events. They’re great and by all means you can come along but I’m not really here to tell you about that.
What I really wanted to know from you is how do you measure value in your networking? What is it that you want from your networking for you to be really happy with it?
Leave us a comment send us an email. We’d love to hear but that’s I’ve got time for now. This is Edward Plant signing off for The Business League.
